Tonight Doug took Matt out on a soiree together. They went to the Jules Verne festival. This weekend they are celebrating the 30th anniversary of 'The Empire Strikes Back" They took the Metro to the festival and got there just in time to be by the red carpet as Mark Hamill came walking by. There were also local members of the 501st. (People dressed up as stormtroopers for those of you who don't know what the 501st is) Matt thought that was pretty cool to see stormtroopers walking by. There were a lot of other people all dressed up in Star Wars costumes. There was a choreographed lightsaber duel with sound effects, which Matt really liked. Mark Hamill received a lifetime achievement award, and then they showed "The Empire Strikes Back" on the big screen. Doug apparently had never seen it on the big screen before. Come to think of it, I don't think I have either. They were all re-released in the theater while Doug and I were on our missions. I do remember seeing "The Return of the Jedi" in the theater when I was little. (I remember the day I saw "E.T" in the theater as well. That was the first time I'd gone to Godfathers Pizza. But I digress now that I'm showing my age)
The two of them got back shortly after midnight. Matt was full of smiles and energy. Plus, he was drinking an orange Fanta. What a great father/son outing.
