A preview of coming attractions

The song "Manic Monday" comes to mind today. I got a glimpse of what the summer will be like with the boys home all day. Let me share it with you.

The boys were up late last night (like 11 PM), so they slept through the alarm this morning. Rather than fight with Matt to get out of bed and send him to school with a little amount of sleep, I chose to let him sleep because it's the last week of school and today is only a half day anyway. What a wonderful way to start the morning. Everybody slept in.

But not for long.

The morning went smoothly enough. We did some laundry, had breakfast, got dressed, Timmy took a nap, the boys played video games and I had some adult company for a little while. Then during lunch I announced that after naps and quiet time we would go to the water fountains to play outside. Should be a fun nice day-right?

I should have known my day was going to take a turn when I sent Matt downstairs to get a change of clothes. I told him there were clean clothes in the dryer and he needed to get new underwear and shorts (can you guess the reason why? I'm so tired of him having accidents. He just doesn't care. But that's another different post). Anyway, he's downstairs for a long time whining about how he can't find some shorts. Well, no wonder. His underwear is covering his eyes.

Yep. I find him with Star Wars underwear ON HIS HEAD with one eye looking out through the leg holes. Oh, and he's humming Star Wars music while "looking" for his shorts. What is it with boys never being able to find things. Maybe they all have invisible underwear covering their eyes. Anyway, I pull out the laundry, switch the other load, and settle down for some quiet time.

Then a guy calls about fixing our toilet. (The boy's bathroom toilet has been broken for a few days and they have been coming in our room in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. It's annoying). So while this guy is over Thomas keeps coming out of his room (he has refused to take a nap), Matt is done with his quiet time, and Timmy is getting whiny because it's time for his nap. (What about my nap-huh?). Well, the toilet gets fixed and I put Timmy down for a nap and I inform the boys that we are not going to the water fountains because Thomas didn't take a nap. Then the fun began.

Maybe I should have just gone out with them. Then I wouldn't have this pounding headache that no amount of chocolate is fixing at the moment. The boy started their active wrestling on the floor complete with steam rolls, and kicking heads. Then as Matt crawled over Thomas, Thomas got a big mouthful of spit and let it drool onto Matt's leg. Well I was on the phone to my SIL and said to her, "Ugh, Thomas just got spit all over Matt's leg" Matt heard me and freaked out. (What did he think that wet stuff was all over his leg?) Anyway, he started yelling and crying, Thomas is giggling , (so is my SIL), and I hear myself saying, "Thomas, keep your spit in your mouth!" Granted I shouldn't have been on the phone, but am I really supposed to sit and play referee all day?!

So I need to get my act together and make a plan for the summer. I need to keep these boys occupied and come up with ways to release their energy in a positive way. What are they doing now, you might ask, while I'm typing away on the computer? Well, I did what every good mommy does. I put them in front of the TV. Welcome to summer vacation.
