Potty training. Ah the joys. We fought with Matt about it and when he turned 4 he decided that 4 year olds use the toilet, and has been fine ever since. Well, mostly fine. Accidents do happen.
That's what I learned from "Elmo's Potty Time" today. Thomas and I just got done watching it. Thomas is actually doing quite well with using the toilet. He's been wearing underwear and has been dry for 4 days now. Quite the accomplishment. So I got out this DVD because he hasn't seen it.
It's a cute video about how to use the toilet. They go through all the steps, how to wash your hands, and how to recognize what your body is trying to tell you. There are all sorts of songs that the muppets sing. They sing about how hard it is to try something, and this song about how everyone does it (uses the toilet). "Mom and Dad do it. Even Kings and Queens do it. They use the potty."
Thomas was entranced with the video. I remember that all the Matt got out of the video was that "accidents happen", which he repeated to me every time it happened and that accidents are OK. Yeah, only sometime accidents.
Anyway, we're all very proud of Thomas. He saw a train in the toy store recently and I told him he could get it when he uses the toilet all the time. So I think he'll probably earn it next week. Maybe we'll even get him some new underwear and let him choose it all by himself. Of course he already has "Cars" and "Thomas the Tank Engine" underwear. I'm very happy to be able to stop buying the pull ups. 2 boys down, 1 to go.

There is this song that Elmo's dad sings with him about using the toilet. I found it on U-Tube and it's pretty funny.

We just got the Elmo's potty time for Andrew for his birthday on Monday. I think Josh and Claire really enjoyed it, but Andrew just played with puzzles during the whole thing. Ha!
It's not fair! I thought that boys were harder to potty train because of how long it took with Michael, but that is not the case at all. Brooklyn will be 5 on Oct. 23rd and SHE WON'T POTTY TRAIN!!! She'll go pee on the toilet, but she will not do the other one. She'll kick and scream, but she won't do it. I have tried everything in the books- treats, charts, prizes, etc., etc. She refuses to go on the potty. I am going insane. I'm very happy that you have Thomas going. I try not to pressure her, and be nice and sometimes I don't say a word, but still... nothing works.
Sincerely,
Desperate in Yakima.
P.S. The other day I thought of you. I remember when Doug and you went to the movies, and you brought me back a bag of popcorn because you knew how much I loved it. Thanks! You're a great friend.
Aah, the joys of potty training. NOT. Jonathan will go number one, but not number two yet. I'm glad that Thomas is doing so well. :D
